It's been a while again... seems it's that way everytime I write. Guess it's because life is busy with school and work, and I don't have internet at home anymore cuz' my computer is on the fritz. My reason for writing today though, is to get your thoughts and opinions on the News Paper.
My sister told me that I was in the Winnipeg free press for Monday October 23rd 2006. So excitedly, I went to my library and found the article. Impressed with the picture of the Deaf congregation worshiping God at the Central Canada Festival held at the MTS Centre, I read on. I was severely disapointed with the article writen. It's like the writer forgot how to properly Abstract and veered far from fact and truth. I found the article misrepresented what was said by the Deaf individual interviewed (I was there at the time and witnessed everthing) and the comments made were based on uneducated assumptions about Deaf people.
Plus, incorrect meaning was extracted from the words of Franklin Graham. Granted, I have mixed feelings about the whole "crusade" event, His words should not be mixed up. They are a reflection on the Christian community. One comment that is fresh in my mind is in regards to the end of the world. yes, Graham did say that God would destroy the earth by fire (which I also hesitate to agree with). But the newspaper said that Graham offered the people a chance to become Christians to avoid this terrible occurance. Is this really why he wanted people to become Christians? What about the part of his message where he talked about having relationship with God? Here we are, back to the good ole' fire insurance Christanity. Does Graham really know that if we become Christians that we will escape the world being destroyed by fire? And how would we avoid it anyway? If global warming is how God will destroy the earth by fire, wouldn't we go along with it? Or will Jesus come back by then? That's a matter of your belief in eschatology.
In saying all that, i'm disapointed that the Winnipeg Free Press's writer (of that particular column) would deduce and abstract a message not in agreement with what was actually said and meant.
Here's my question...
Do you feel we can trust newspapers? Should we base our beliefs about an event or a person based on what the newspaper says? do we trust it a little too much? Does the Media speak truth?
