in my life...

I wasn't sure what to write. So after crusing around my friends and families' blogs I have finally been inspired. It's really cool to find out what's going on in other people's lives. So this blog will be about what's going on in my life. Pardon me if it's a little candid. oh, by the way, if you want to read something from someone who's a great and funny writer, then go to www.wendypeffercorn.blogspot.com. She's a good writer and i think you'll be encouraged.
So, here's what's been going on.
Since january i've been working at an elementary school about 45 minutes away and that's been super fun. I am a signing (ASL) para-support assistant. when i'm not signing, i'm helping the other students. I really enjoy it, although the drive is quite long and borring when the weather is nice. With driving and working at the school it takes up about 37.5 hours of my time.
I also still work at Highway Tabernacle as the worship pastor. That's about 15 hours of my week. I'm pretty busy as far as i can see. But i enjoy the activity. It's interesting being the worship pastor. I've definately learned so much this past year in ministry. I don't doubt my call to full-time ministry and slowly i'm starting to realize what my strengths are. I would jump at the opportunity to be a Youth Pastor right now. I do work at Jr. youth, mostly with the girls and that's tons of fun! I think i'll be doing a girl's discipleship ministry this summer since i'll be off for two months from school. It's interesting the doors that God is opening here in Portage.
I just bought a piano that i LOVE! It's so awesome to be able to go to my piano room and worship God freely through music...my own music! And to know i can teach from it... which reminds me, if anyone knows of some kids who want to take piano lessons in September, let me know!
I've been wondering something... i'd like your comments...
Where's the line between desiring God's presence and the "feeling" you get in his presence, and practical God stuff. Like, should we rather have an awesome worship gathering where we shake and feel God, or should we seek to bind the broken hearted...and help those who don't know God? Are they silmultanious? have we truly worshiped when we help someone break the cycle of abuse? Or do we truly worship when we feel God through music? Cuz' if singing worship isn't the highest form of worship, then why do we put so much emphasis on it while the rest of God's children are trapped in cycles of destructive sin?

Wow Jenn, sounds like your super bsuy these days. you ask a good question and i have been trying to work that out in my own life. I remember back when we did the 40 days of purpose and Rick did a part on worship, He said something to the effect that what we do all day long is worship to God, such as working, washing dishes, walking the dog, ect... He said that our worship is just being what God created us to do.
I personaly feel that so much emphasis is put on worship being songs is because its all we call and recognize as worship.
I guess we need to change our thinking about how we view worhsip now to what worship really is.

Should we "seek" the power and presence of God like Pentecostals often do. Especially in revival type meetings? is this what we should be aiming for when we get together? what do you think?

sometimes people can definately get caught up in the feeling aspect of worship. the spiritual highs. nope, nothing wrong with that, but when we make that our goal when we go to worship through music, it's not neccessarily good. "oh, i want that feeling." again, not that that feeling is bad, because when it happens it happens. sometimes when it's the goal of worship, others who aren't neccesarily prone to that sort of thing feel like worse Christians, or others might think that if they didn't laugh uncontrollably or fall to the ground they are worse Christians which is rubbish. worship is all day, like sarah said. it's also about obedience. i want to worship God because i'm want to be obedient to him. i raise my hands, not because i'm compelled to (not usually anyways) but because i want to be an obedient worshipper. this is how i've worked it out. i'm not sure if it makes complete sense. also, i do not think singing worship is the highest form of worship, we just have a culture that values music a lot. there are plenty of other ways we can worship God. what is true religion?

hmmm, that’s a hard question Jenn. "Should we "seek" the power and presence of God like Pentecostals often do?"

I know for me I want to be in Gods presence, In the OT God lived with them in tabernacle, He longed for them to come into His presence. Joshua stayed behind in the tent of meetings to linger in the presence of God.
Sometimes we as Pentecostals can get carried away in it and fake it or just go with what they see others doing.
But this isn’t answering your question, should we seek the feelings and "high" we got the last time... or should we be seeking to give God our best, honest and pure worship. no matter what it may look like and feel like. Honestly when I reach the holy of holies while worshiping in a corporate setting everything and everyone is gone, its just me and God, and I may be in different postures, arms at different positions, I may be singing or praying in my spirit. I might quite myself and just be still before my God. I love the high energy worship times but also the quite ones. Sometimes even the worst days where I don’t want to worship God in song I still press in giving what I can.
Ahhh Jenn I don’t know where I am going with this….. If what you do in public worship you do in privet worship then I would believe your worship is pure, if you only worship big when others are around then who are you worshiping? If seeking the presence of God is what you are after, does it only have to look one way or can it come in many different forms? Where is your motive I guess we should ask ourselves eh???

Just a thought… I heard someone say that Pentecostals are more in tune with the spiritual side of things and another denomination is more focused on knowledge. If this is true maybe we need to have a balance and not worry about reaching the spiritual high all the time but also long and seek to comprehend Gods word fully…

Anyway Jenn awesome questions really make one think about ones own worship

Hey Jenn, I was watching a bit of Its a New Day before I went to work today, and the guy they had on said something that hit me and goes with your blog kinda.
This guy went over to Isreal and he said that we as Westerners go and worship and say "what can I get from God", But Jews go to worship and say "what can I do for you God".
